Throught the heavy ins and outs of everyday life, it is easy overlook the bits of goodness that exist in our day to day. Just like a miner chipping away, consciously keeping an eye out for those small glimmers that make it all worthwhile, we have to consciously search for those same glimmers in this thing we call life. I call it mining joy!
During one of the most difficult times in my life, I found myself so focused on all that was wrong that I realized I was missing the things that were good. I had tried gratitude journals and so many of the abundance practices out there, but during a time when my mind was already so cluttered and overwhelmed just trying to make it through each day, the task of writing an insightful paragraph or "Ten Things I am Grateful For" each day was too overwhelming.
I remembered seeing something about tiny moments of good in our lives called glimmers. These are not grand or magnificent events, but the small things that happen throughout our daily lives that give us a tiny spark. So, I began seeing myself as a miner- chiseling away to find these glimmers as I went through even the most difficult of days. I started making a concsious practice of searching for a single glimmer of good in every day- just one good thing- that felt very doable. To this day, I keep a list of my #OneGoodThing. It not only made finding them second nature, but on the days when they seemed a little less abundant, I am able to look back at my #OneGoodThing list and think about how bright all of those tiny glimmers are altogether.
Mining joy is a practice that has not only improved my life, but it has helped me to appreciate even the simplest of glimmers Try it for a week. You just might be amazed how bright your life really is when you work to unearth those shiny little glimmers and pile them up.
